Donkey Clinic in September 2009

During market days the ASPA team travels to the markets to visit the donkey owners and request permission to access the donkey’s basic health and to administer first aid, we also provide other free treatments such as worming, eye care, hoof care and wound treatment.
We then discuss donkey welfare with the owners and distribute educational material to help educate them about donkey care
There has been a long standing problem of rope burns and wounds on the donkey’s front and rear legs, especially when these ropes are supporting heavy loads for extended periods of time. To improve this situation ASPA has provided the services of passing out free plastic tubes the donkeys harness is inserted inside the tube and the tube prevents the irritating rope from rubbing and wounding the donkey’s skin.

Mobile Dog Clinics in September 2009

This month we have done 4 Saturday morning Dog clinics. These clinics involve the ASPA team visiting various villages in and around Arusha to de-worm and vaccinate dogs against rabies. During these clinics we also assess the general health of the dogs and offer advice on how to improve the animals’ health and condition. We also provide educational material with detailed health and nutritional information for the owners of dogs in the poorest condition.
